You are sat in a dorm room with two of your [[friends]] for a [[zine]] making night. Layed out on the floor are the various [[materials]] you brought to the night, as well as some that each of your friends brought. On the television is the newest episode of [[Drag Race]]. As much as you try, you just can't seem to figure out what you want to make your zine on, [[tonight]].A zine is a self-published booklet on anything and everything. Your zine, however, is still currently a [[blank sheet of paper]] with no current indication of changing into a beautiful piece of art. You're having a hard time thinking of [[ideas]] today.Your friends, [[Soph]] and [[Emily]] are diligently working on their [[zine]]s. Yours is, pitifully, blank. [[Drag Race]] hums on the TV. You always bring maybe too many materials to zine night. This time, you brought your [[orange binder]], [[green accordion file]], a [[paper pad]], and [[markers]]. [[Soph]] has a stack of [[magazines]] from the 90s, and [[Emily]] has some [[drawings]].Drag Race comes out every Friday. You and [[Emily]] have made it your duty to turn [[Soph]] into a better gay person by making her watch it. So far, it's.....working...?Soph is a friend you met while dressed as [[Dan and Phil]] (with [[Emily]]) during a [[Halloween hardcore show]]. It's a long story. Anyways, you and Soph are working on a monthly zine called [[Get Cool Now]]. She brought her [[magazines]] from the 90s to today's [[zine night]].Emily is a girl you met in your major who shared every single class with you. You have a big fat [[crush]] on her and no one knows. To [[zine night]] she brought some [[drawings]]. She is working on her [[zine]] with intense focus. It was a good night. You twisted your ankle while moshing and limped all the next day. Totally worth it. The show was hosted by the campus' [[radio station]].What, you seriously don't know who Dan and Phil are? Get with it. As much as you would love to make a zine about them, that's more [[Soph]]'s territory.Get Cool Now is your super-cool monthly [[zine]] that you and [[Soph]] are making. Maybe you could try [[making a spread]] for it!These magazines are straight from [[Soph]]'s attic. They smell a little dusty. You flip through them. Still, you don't feel inspired. You just can't seem to come up with any [[ideas]].Are you in fifth grade, or something? You know what a crush is. Mind your business. Though...maybe you could [[make a zine]] about this...Today the drawings are eyeballs made out of lipstick marks. They're really neat. You can't wait to see what she makes with them.[[Soph]] is the host of a radio station that goes live Friday's at 10 am called You Had to Be There. You and [[Emily]] are guests every week. Mostly, you all talk about nonsense with [[emo music]] in-between. It's pretty great.Oh, yeah. [[Soph]] is also in a band. They won Battle of the Bands, don't you know. It's pretty sweet. Wait...maybe you can [[write about this]]!Ideas, ideas, ideas. Your [[zine]] is terribly empty. If only you could find something inspiring...[[zine night]] won't last forever, after all.You can't really call it a [[zine]], yet, but it is folded up like one. Eight neat little pages, ready to be filled with any number of [[ideas]].Your binder, clad in your all-time favorite color, is full to the brim with magazine cut outs from over the years. Maps, scraps, and letters burst at the seams of the plastic. Usually, just flipping through it would fill you with [[ideas]], but today you've got nothing. It's an old accordion file you got for Christmas a couple years ago. It's full of patterned paper, some from your [[basement]] back home and some from the craft store. The stuff in here makes great backgrounds for your [[zine]], but a background isn't enough---you've still got no [[ideas]]. The start of every [[zine]] you make, a pad of blank white paper. You've been making so many zines you had to go out and buy some more recently. A couple of the pages have some larger drawings, but nothing that could be made into a full zine. So, no [[ideas]] here, either. They're paint markers you spent maybe too much money on, but they work well and you love them. Right now, though, you don't find yourself in the mood to draw anything.Your aunt's basement--a wonderfully full-to-the-brim space that holds unlimited treasures. Any time you've got a crafting need, she directs you to some corner of the basement you've never seen before, and it always has just what you need. Wait...this would be [[perfect]] for a zine!Give me a second, I
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the Empire State
My lover, she's waiting for me just across the bar
My seat's been taken by some sunglasses asking 'bout her scar and
I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you're trying to forget
But between the drinks and subtle things
The holes in my apologies
You know I'm trying hard to take it back
So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
Now I know that I'm not all that you got
I guess that I, I just thought
Maybe we could find new ways to fall apart
But our friends are back
So let's raise a toast
'Cause I found someone to carry me home
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
Carry me home tonight
Just carry me home tonight
Carry me home tonight
Just carry me home tonight
The moon is on my side
I have no reason to run
So will someone come and carry me home tonight?
The angels never arrived
But I can hear the choir
So will someone come and carry me home?
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I'll carry you home tonightOf course! If you don't have any good ideas for a [[zine]], why not make a spread instead!
